Sparks with Nellie

18 years today, my Mother passed away. It was not unexpected. She had been battling cancer for almost a year. I had kissed her goodbye as I left town on a Sunday afternoon to head back to Edmonton. I worked for a software company and every second week, they let me work in the Calgary office so I could be with my Mom. As it was our anniversary, I was hoping I could get home in time to have a nice late supper with my hubby.

When I arrived back in Edmonton, and wearily walked up the steps  –there were 2 cat carriers, my husband had a suitcase, our dog Bob and our 2 cats, Nellie and Licorice packed and ready to go. My cell phone battery had died and I did not know that Mom had rapidly failed. We did the normal 3 hour drive in less than 2 and I got there in time to say goodbye.

This spark is for you Mom. You thought life was a great adventure and passed that along to me. And I am still adventuring!

I know Nellie is sitting on your lap, she LOVED your lap, and I love you both and there is not a day I don’t think about you.

  1. Dear Barb……what a precious post in honor of your Mom. I’m sure she watches over you – perhaps with Nellie on her lap – and is so proud of you and all your accomplishments and considerable talents. Our Moms have a most special spot in our hearts forever.

Love and Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)

  2. Aww, what a sweet post. It’s nice to think about Nellie and your mom spending long blissful afternoons together, napping and purring. I figure, if the kitties aren’t there, it ain’t really heaven 😉

  6. My mum passed while I was there too. Her carer brought Ginger her kitty in, she had made Mum’s life so happy these past years. Mam waited until Ginger came before she decided to go. I miss her sometimes, I think, “Oh Mam would like that, or Ohh I wish I could tell her….”
